The late Sree Veerabhadrappa M. Chigateri, born on November 14th, 1916 (Children’s Day), was an esteemed industrialist and the visionary behind Sree Jagadaguru Jayavibhava Educational Society (SJJES).
Inspired by his father, Sree Murigappa Chigateri—a respected humanitarian and philanthropist—Sri Veerabhadrappa was deeply committed to uplifting society through education.
His father, Sree Murigappa, had already established a strong legacy in Davanagere, contributing significantly to healthcare by founding the Chigateri General Hospital and creating employment opportunities in the textile industry. Sree Veerabhadrappa’s unwavering commitment to education as a means of social service continues to inspire us all.
Carrying forward his father’s vision, Sree Veerabhadrappa founded SJJES with a clear mission. He believed that education was the key to social and economic progress and was committed to making it accessible to all, regardless of background or financial status.
His leadership and dedication left a lasting impact on the community, and his legacy continues to inspire the mission and values of SJJES.
His Majesty Srimajjaya Chamarajendra Wodeyar Bahadur Mahaswami bestowed the honorary title of ‘Dharma Prakasha’ upon Sri Murigappa Chigateri of Davangere during the Vardhanti Mahotsava.
SJJES was founded in Davanagere in 1962 by Sree Veerabhadrappa M. Chigateri and others, to provide affordable education to all members of society without any profit motive.
